Building Classifications

Written by Kevin Coulston

This is a marketing term referring to the classification of properties as Class A, Class B, Class C, and Class D. The rating given to a certain building is usually subjective. Newer buildings with higher-level construction and finishes that are in outstanding locations with a number of amenities are typically classified as Class A. Buildings that are assigned a rating of Class A are often given the highest rental rates in their type of market. As the classification of the building moves from B to D, one or more components make the building less desirable. Those elements can be age, location, or materials used in construction.
